How it works
Project Backdash is our build of RPCS3, the free and open-source PS3 emulator, with rollback netplay added for Tekken 5 Dark Resurrection, and a launcher that sets it all up. You bring the game. Windows only, and free.
Three parts
-
The emulator
A modified RPCS3: upstream commit 028d1e8f4a42 plus our netplay changes, under the GNU GPL version 2. The netplay code works in memory while the game runs, so your game files are never changed.
-
Your game
Your own copy of Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection Online (PS3, NPUB30009): its .pkg file or game folder, with the matching .rap licence. We provide no game files, licence files or keys. Other regional releases are not supported.
-
The launcher
It checks your PC, installs your files, downloads the system software (PS3UPDAT.PUP) from its publisher's update server, and prepares the game behind a progress bar. One setup, then you play from its menu.
Rollback
Each PC plays your inputs without waiting for your opponent's, and predicts theirs. When a real input arrives that differs from the prediction, the game restores a saved state and re-simulates the frames in between. Both PCs compare the game state every frame and stop the match if they ever disagree.
Input delay is chosen automatically from the measured connection. You can change it in Settings → Game → Online feel.
The fight runs directly between the two PCs, or through a relay when a direct connection cannot be made. On a direct connection your opponent sees your IP address.
